Flexybox supports all vending machines that have full MDB compatibility and can also be integrated with coffee machines that use CCI (Coffee Credit Interface).
However, our experience shows that there are differences in manufacturers’ technical interpretation of MDB.
Therefore, Flexybox recommends that you contact:
Freehand Coffee if you are looking for a coffee machine that should work with Flexybox
Vendingautomater.dk if you are looking for a vending machine that should work with Flexybox
Our module works with all machines that can handle our payment module via MDB, but based on our experience, we specifically recommend the above suppliers.
If you wish to use a different supplier, we also offer to test the relevant machine in cooperation with your preferred manufacturer. This service is offered as a one-time purchase for DKK 3.495. We handle the contact with the supplier and test their machine.
What is the MDB protocol?
MDB (Multi-Drop Bus) is an international standard that enables different payment systems to communicate with vending machines. It is used to connect hardware such as coin acceptors and card readers, as well as software like Flexybox, so they work seamlessly together.
What is CCI (Coffee Credit Interface)?
CCI is a protocol primarily used to connect coffee machines. It is a cost-optimized solution for payment systems that communicate via an RS232 interface.
Run two payment solutions on one vending machine
It is possible to have two different payment solutions on the same machine, as long as both systems support MDB. For example:
A Flexybox payment module running MDB
A coin acceptor or another solution that also supports MDB
Both systems can operate independently, allowing customers to choose their preferred payment method.
Note: If the customer selects the other reader that is not the Flexybox payment module, transactions will not be registered in Flexybox under the customer’s profile.
Be aware of false compatibility
Although many vending machines are marketed as being MDB or CCI compatible, this may in practice turn out not to be the case. This can be due to:
Limitations in hardware or software
Outdated firmware versions that do not support newer payment modules
How to ensure compatibility:
Obtain documentation from the supplier confirming full MDB or CCI compatibility
Test the machine with Flexybox to ensure proper functionality
Slave machines
In some cases, a slave machine can be connected to a primary vending machine.
A slave is used to add more shelves to the same vending setup, but only the “master” machine has a reader and a keypad.
Flexybox supports slave machines.
However, some configuration may be required, as a slave machine often starts with a different shelf numbering. This can be identified by using the machine tester. If shelves are translated correctly on the master machine but incorrectly on the slave, configuration is required.
Setup of slave machines
Setup of slave machines
To set up slave machines, they must be configured here.
After that, enter the Offset (i.e. how many numbers the slave is shifted by) and the Start shelf number.
Once the configuration is completed, it is recommended to use the Machine Tester to ensure that shelf numbers are translated correctly.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I know if my machine is MDB or CCI compatible?
Check the machine’s documentation and, if necessary, contact the machine supplier. We also offer testing with the Flexybox payment module to confirm full compatibility.
Which specific machines have you seen your module work with?
We have experience with Freehand Coffee Company for coffee machines, and Vendo G-Snack and Vendo G-Drink, which support MDB.
Conclusion
Flexybox works with vending machines that have full MDB or CCI compatibility.
You can run two payment systems on the same machine, as long as both support MDB simultaneously.
Be aware that not all vending machines marketed as MDB-compatible are necessarily fully compatible.
